Scholarship Information

Scholarships:

Who can apply?
LYREA (Lower Yellowstone Rural Electric Association Inc.) member dependents may apply for the following scholarships if you are enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time graduate or undergraduate course of study at an accredited, two-year or four-year college, university or vocational/technical school.  The applicant must also be a U.S. citizen.

How do you apply?
To apply for the MECA and Basin Electric scholarships, you must complete the required criteria on the scholarship applications.  The applicant is responsible for submitting all necessary information to apply for a scholarship and the applications must reach LYREA’s office by the given deadline to be eligible.

MECA Memorial Scholarship

Each year MECA (Montana Electric Cooperatives’ Association) distributes two $500 college scholarships.  Winners are selected by a committee comprised of Co-op member services staff.  LYREA member dependents may apply for the MECA scholarship.

Basin Electric Scholarship

The Basin Electric Power Cooperative (BEPC) scholarship program will award one $1,000 scholarship to LYREA to award to a dependent of a consumer member.  The scholarship must be used for educational costs, and the student must enter college in the fall of the school year for which the scholarship is given.  A check will be made payable to the school in August.

LUCK OF THE DRAW SCHOLARSHIP

Each June during LYREA’s annual meeting, there are (6) $1000 “Luck of the Draw” Scholarships winners.  These are awarded to provide a college scholarship for members and their dependents.

The guidelines for the Luck of the Draw scholarships are as follows:

  1. The applicant or parent/guardian must be a member who is currently receiving electric service from LYREA.
  2. The applicant must be a student who is enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two or four-year college/university or vocational technical school for the upcoming fall term.
  3. The applicant must be accompanied by a parent/guardian and both must be present at the Annual Meeting to be eligible.
  4. An individual applicant can receive a maximum of 2 Luck of the Draw scholarships.
