Meter Reading

Each month Lower Yellowstone Rural Electric Association sends a billing statement for your account. Each bill is due by the 10th of the month. If the full amount is paid and a meter reading is reported, there is a 3% discount applied to your next month's bill. Most of LYREA's accounts are on a self-read basis, meaning the consumer reads their own meter and reports it.

The meters typically have 5-digit readings. You can submit your meter reading two ways:

  • Use our online form to submit your meter reading without leaving your chair.
  • Write down your meter reading and send it to us. On your billing statement there is a space to record your present readings for your meters. Read the meter and write the reading in the appropriate space. We recommend that, each month when you receive a bill, you read the meter right away. If Lower Yellowstone does not receive a reading for 60 days, a company employee will be required to read your meter and a fee will be assessed.

Keep in mind that with self-read billing your account means your bill is two months behind your actual electricity use. For example, when you receive a bill the 1st of February and write your current meter reading in the space provided on that statement, this reading is for the electricity you used in January. You send the reading back to LYREA, and since we bill only once a month, we don't bill you for that January reading until the next statement we send out, which would be at the beginning of March. Thus, the billing is two months behind.
