Getting money back for a service is always fun and rewarding. Although Lower Yellowstone Rural Electric Association is a nonprofit cooperative, each year a margin is realized. Revenue (not cost) is called margin. Margin is allocated to the member in the form of a capital credit. As a member you will be notified of your patronage and the amount will be credited to your capital credit account. It cannot be used as a credit or payment to your electric bill. This amount is used for capital to operate the business of the cooperative.
When the financial condition of the cooperative is favorable, retirement or payment of these capital credits will be made. Payments vary; the present payment schedule pays part of the oldest year and part of the current year patronage.
